Welcome to NewLink in Derby
The NewLink Centre in Derby provides a range of training including computer training for beginners to advanced. Courses in literacy and numeracy are also available in these centres. The Derby centre is run by Karl Telfer-Banner, (Local Co-ordinator for courses).

Karl also specialises in providing additional special skills teaching for blind and partially sighted students. Providing grade 1 and grade two contracted Braille course notes for visually impaired learners who cannot use audio because of either hearing impairment or simply because Braille is their preferred medium.

Embossed diagrams are used in conjunction with Braille course notes and assist blind learners to mentally visualise shapes and basic diagrams of screen views. All material used is self-produced solely by Karl and not provided by the college as standard material. Braille frames are provided by the college and special text-reader software is used.

There are two teaching assistants for the Derby classes; Pauline Turner and David Edge. These assistants volunteer to help students with their coursework during class times.
